Russian antitrust launches new case against Apple
MOSCOW, Dec 12 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has launched a new case against Apple Rus, a local unit of the U.S.’ Apple, under a complaint filed by an iPhone user, Nadezhda Sharavskaya, a deputy head of the service’s department for control over social sphere and trade, told PRIME on Monday.
If the violation of legislation is confirmed, a company employer may be fined for 15,000–20,000 rubles, while the company may be fined from 300,000 rubles to 1 million rubles.
Vedomosti business daily reported that a Dmitry Petrov filed a complaint that Apple abuses its monopolist position on the market of iPhone maintenance in the country, and no one is allowed to repair the phones without approval of Apple. At the same time, the company does not supply component parts for repairs of iPhone screens, the business daily said.
Petrov also hopes that the antitrust will order the company to start supplies of component parts to Russia to eliminate the violations, Vedomosti said
